Police rescues man tied to a tree by Lagos business tycoon over unpaid N4.6 million debt
A Lagos based business man reportedly tied a debtor to a tree and took him hostage over his inability to offset debt to the tune of N4.6 million at Ebute Metta, Lagos.
Report of the debtor’s ordeal was blown open to the Police as his wife cried out for her husband to be saved.
Lagos Police Command immediately swung into action and discovered that the debtor who is identified as Reuben Alozie was tied to a tree and was immediately rescued.
His creditor, who was identified as Mr. Okoye popularly called PACA of No. 19, Abeokuta Street, Ebute Metta tied the debtor to a tree in his compound between 23 to 24 September before his rescue.
Confirming the report, Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu in a statement on Friday explained that Police operatives from Denton Division have arrested Mr Okoye following a complaint by the victim’s wife that her husband was being held.
The Police revealed that the alledged debtor’s wife complained to the Division that her husband was being held over a debt issue.
According to the Police statement, Mr Okoye has confessed to jungle justice after he claimed to have exhausted every means to recover his money without success.
Part of the statement read: “Following the arrest, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu directed that the suspect should be transferred to the command’s tactical team for diligent investigation and prosecution.
“The Commissioner of Police uses this medium to warn people against taking the law into their own hands instead of taking legal actions to seek justice.”
