Niger Civil Defence Commandant, Zurmi vows to recover funds embezzled in staff Co-operative
The commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State command, Haruna Bala Zurmi has vowed to recover funds belonging to the NSCDC, staff Co-operative and Investment Credit Society Limited, diverted by the previous leadership of the Co-operative.
He stated that he will not relent in the recovery of the funds alledged to be syphoned by the past executive of the NSCDC Co-operative along with one of the old generation Bank in Minna, noting that the money belong to the staff of the command.
Speaking at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), of the credit society held at the new headquarters of the command along Western by pass in Minna, Bala Zurmi explained that the co-operative was established to address the needs of members so as to improve their wellbeings, vowing that the money will be recovered at all possible cost.
He described as painful for some people entrusted with public funds to divert it to their personal pockets, insisting that his leadership in the command will not allow such funds to go unaccounted for.
“Our savings cannot go unaccounted for. I must investigate whoever diverted the money. We can’t just allow our savings to go unaccounted for.
“Whoever is in possession of the money must be investigated and give account of it” he vowed.
He commended the commitment and efforts of the current leadership of the NSCDC, staff co-operative and investment credit society for their determination and zeal of moving the Society to its present stage, assuring them of his support at all times.
He enjoined the executive of the co-operative not to be discouraged by any criticism from members, urging them to take such criticism as way of making them to forge ahead in living above board in order to leave a mark that will be reckon red d with.
While calling on members to engage in an objectIve criticism that will give the executive a sense of meaningful direction on how to better the lots of members, Bala Zurmi appeal to the executive of the co-operative to listen to such criticism that will make the credit society a viable venture that will be a pride of members.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the NSCDC staff, Co-operative and Investment Credit Society Limited, Abubakar Mohammed, disclosed that the co-operative under the present executive was able to establish store, where household essential commodities are made available to all members.
This, according to him, has eliminated the number of cases being recorded at the command against co-operators by civilians, for collecting food items on credit and default payment.
He disclosed further, that the co-operative under the current leadership within the last one year was able to deliver a total of 100 units of 3 bedrooms and 2 bedrooms detached as well as semi- detached bungalows at Pago area of Minna in conjunction with a private developer HAFSAMAB Technical Service, and another 200 units are underway.
Equally, the chairman explained that the co-operative had constructed a mini estate self-contained flats at roofing stage located at the new GRA Minna without any external partnership which will be completed before the end of the year 2021.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Co-operative, Mohammed Isyaku Kuta, said the current leadership of the co-operative assumed office on the 27th of February 2021, through a democratic process, “but based on one reason or the other, the election was questioned by the National headquarters, where we were ask to stop transaction on 9th of April 2020 until the national headquarters taskforce are through with their fact findings on the allegations before them.
The taskforce however declared the executive victorious after their thorough findings.
A total of N7.161 million was declared as surplus at the AGM and a total of 10 motorcycles and 10 deep freezer regerators as well as 36 inches plasma telenvision were delivered to some beneficiaries.
