Ghost workers: Jigawa LGs loses N2.5 billion monthly
Jigawa State Workers Verification Committee said, the sum of N2.5 billion was being lost to ghost workers every month.
The Committee revealed that the amount covered the Local and State government payrolls.
The Committee which is headed by Hon. Surajo Kantoga of Jigawa State House of Assembly noted this while presenting a report to the ALGON Chairman and Chairman of Dutse Metropolitan Council on Thursday.
According to the report, there were illegal employment in some Local Governments Councils in the State.
The Local Government Civil Service, the Committee Chairman said was characterized by favoritism and corruption particularly with regards to employment and promotion.
The Committee noted that, it has stopped salaries of some teachers on grade level 16 due to lack of aper qualifications, while about 84 teachers from various Local Governments in the State were accused of various offences.
Kantoga explained that two teachers who illegally received salaries for two months were asked to refund after they were indicted by the Committee.
He said: “Other findings of the committee includes, 13 teachers without minium paper qualification of NCE to teach”, while we recommend retirement of three teachers, in addition to other 14 teacher’s without NCE qualification and illegal promotion of of 29 teachers.
Reacting to the report, the Dutse Council Chairman, Hon. Bala Usman Chamo thanked the Committee for a job well done.
He promised to implement the committee’s reports, saying that it will go along way in injecting sanity, transparency, and social justice in the entire Local Government Councils of the State.
