Breaking: El-Rufai moves to demolish NUJ secretariat, issues quit notice
Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has ordered the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Kaduna State Council to vacate its secretariat for demolition.
In a letter by the Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority on the order of El-Rufai, signed by Ismail Umar Dikko dated 23rd September, 2021 which was obtained by CAPITAL POST, indicated that there were series of interaction with the NUJ management over the planned demolition.
The letter which asked the NUJ to quit within 21 days of receipt of the letter, lamented the recalcitrance of the NUJ management that has delayed demolition action that would have taken place before now.
Part of the letter read: “You will recall that we had a meeting with respect to your office/shopping complex on the above mentioned address dated 9th March, 2021. Action points were noted and agreed. Timeline to commence implementation was set for (2) two weeks from the date of our meeting, but to no avail.
“The authority again wrote a reminder dated 2nd August, 2021 with a 30 day timeline compliance which has also lapsed without response. The identified challenges prior to our meeting especially on the Street parking has increased.
“The act of non-compliance after several communication shows that the NUJ’s management choose to deliberately undermine the Authority and Kaduna State Urban Renewal programme.”
The State agency reminded the NUJ that the building marked for demolition has no planning and building permit.
The letter advised the NUJ to evaluate all it’s belongings as the building would not be spare after the 21 days ultimatum.
