Justice Umar issues bench warrant on Kuje LG ex-Councillors
The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar on Thursday issued a bench warrant for arrest of former Councillors of Kuje Area Council.
The eight Councillors (names witheld) who were expected to be arraigned before the Code of Conduct Tribunal were absent even when they were duly informed of the hearing date.
They neither appear in person nor sent legal Counsel to represent them in Court, “a development the court frowned at when the defendants were called one after the other to be docked for trial.”
The accused were standing trial for non declaration of assets before, during and after their political offices in line with the Code of Conduct Bureau Act.
Justice Danladi Umar of the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Wednesday commenced the trial of 17 persons for various offences.
In a letter of notification issued and signed by the Director of Legal Services of the CCT, Mrs Bintu Abubakar which was made available to CAPITAL POST in Abuja indicated that 6 persons were due for judgement while 10 are for arraignment and 1 for mention.
The letter dated 7th September, 2021 has also put the accused on notice for their appearance beginning from Wednesday, 15th September, 2021.
