The former Chairman of the Plateau State Youth Council (PYC) Dr. Fabong Jemchang has disclosed that the Youth Council in the state during his three years tenure has trained over 12,000 youths across the 17 Local Governments of the State on different skills acquisition as well as secured hundreds of employment opportunities from both the formal and informal sector for the Youths.

Dr. Jemchang stated this on Monday in Jos while handing over documents and office to the new PYC Chairman Mr. Lot Adas at the Azi Nyako Youth Centre Dadin Kowa Jos.

He said the different skills acquisition includes Cosmetology, Metal fabrication, tailoring, welding and Poultry amongst others.

According to him, the youth Council under his leadership has also created an appropriate office that will help the young people on the Plateau learn leadership skills.

“We came as learners perfected the skills of leadership and now handed over to a succeeding generation which we have to improve on the much that we did”.

Jemchang who is currently the Director General of the Plateau State Contributory Health Care Management Agency expressed great sense of responsibility and fill accomplished for serving Plateau Youths for the past three years.

He said he is grateful to the Youths of the State for given him the opportunity to serve them and urged the new leadership to serve with sincerity of purpose.

The New Chairman of PYC Mr Lot Adas while receiving the documents from the former chairman appreciated him and promise to continue from where the last officials stopped, saying his focus is to unite Plateau Youths irrespective of tribe and religion.

Meanwhile new officials of the Plateau Youth Council have been urged to ensure that youths in the State play a vital role in maintaining peace and unity in the State, even as they are tasked to be mindful of their role before and during 2023 elections as “their decisions and participation mean a lot to the development of the state and nation at large.”

A member of the National Advisory Board of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN and the State Coordinator, Women4Women/He4She Community
Dr Jophia Gupar who advised the youths noted that, “The successful conduct of the election and inauguration of the elected officials have given brighter future for the young people on the Plateau,” and such “will also strengthen youth participation in leadership and selfless service and commitment to their immediate communities.”

Gupar who is also the Founder/President, Pan African Young Women Development Initiative, PAYWODI added that she believes that the new leaders of PYC will “assist in bringing back the lost value of the Council,” and commended Governor Simon Lalong and the State Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Victor Lapang for supporting the cause of youth participation and development in the state.

It would be recalled that the new officials were inaugurated last week Thursday by the State Governor, Simon Lalong at the Youths Centre, Dadin Kowa, Jos.
