Couple arrested for celebrating stolen newborn baby in Kano
In Kano, couple were arrested for throwing party for a new male born baby they stole from Abdullahi Wase Hospital in Kano.
The Police statement named one, Mr Abubakar Sadiq and his wife Maryam Sadiq as stealing a one day old male baby.
Neighbours of the couple expressed doubts after the couple heavily celebrated arrival of a male child, knowing that Maryam was not pregnant.

Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the police received a complaint on Wednesday from the father of the baby, Rabi’u Muhammad of Gayawa Quarters, Ungogo Local Government Area of the state, that on the same day one of his newly-born male twins was missing.
According to Kiyawa, his wife gave birth to twins at the Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital on 7th September 2021 and one was missing during when his sister in-law out of boredom slept off on the corridor of maternity ward and woke up to the missing child.
According to him, upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, raised and instructed a team of detectives, led by SP Daniel Itse Amah, to rescue the victim and arrest the culprits.
“The team immediately stormed the scene and launched a search. The Hospital was sealed off and thoroughly combed, but the child could not be found immediately.
“Sustained efforts, coupled with intelligence sharing, led to the arrest of one Maryam Sadiq, 22 years old, and her husband one Abubakar Sadiq, 50 years old, all of Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, Kano and the Child was recovered from them in their home.”
Upon interrogation, she confessed to stealing the baby from Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital Kano.
The suspect said it was her husband that influenced her steal a male child since they don’t get one.
The Police said the couple would be prosecuted after investigation has been concluded, adding that the baby has been reunited with his parents.
