The former President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday wrote explaining that he fled Kabul secretly in order to ‘keep guns silent.’
The former Afghan leader had left Kabul on 15th August, 2021 the day Talibans fighters have inroad into the capital.
Initially, Ashraf Ghani’s whereabout was unknown, but later revealed that that he was taking asylum in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Talibans have been fighting in the last 20 years, but finally over ran the capital, Kabul on 15th August and since then, over 170 Afghans have been killed in stampedes, terror attacks, or by the Taliban since the former leader left.
He insisted that he has to flee to avoid bloodshed, saying that it was the most difficult decision he has take as a sacrifice to keep the guns silent and save Kabul and her 6 million citizens.
He said: “I left at the urging of the palace security, who advised me that to stay risked setting off the same street-to-street fighting the city had suffered during the civil war of the 1990s .”
The Washington Post which first reported Ghani’s statement said the former leader posted it on his verified Twitter handle, added that Taliban would behead him if he does run away.
