The Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, who is also the Senator representing Plateau North Istifanus Gyang has attributed the insecurity ravaging the country to a lack of decisiveness and sincerity of purpose on the part of government and security agencies.

Change of Name

Senator Gyang who stated this in an interview in Jos, Plateau State said Nigerians are sicked and tired of the spate of killings in the country occasioned by constant and frequent attacks on communities, adding that the posture of the government towards the ugly trend is not encouraging.

“There’s lack of divisiveness, lack of unity of purpose, the law must be enforced without prejudice and sentiment. A criminal should be treated as a criminal, you cannot use sentiment to determine how to fight crime and criminalities or terrorism to be specific.

“Intelligent reports are there, they know those behind the problems, let us not continue deceiving ourselves. The government know what to do, if the government wants to fight this insecurity sentiment of ethnicity and religion should be put aside” he said.

He pointed out that the killings in his constituency and other parts of the country is a demonstration of the failure of governance and warned that until the narrative is properly put in place and call a spade a spade and properly classified, the terror attack will continue to spread.

Said he: “It is not an issue of two fighting, it is not. It is a situation of terror attack and the responsibility is on the government to exhibit sincerity of purpose and the will to arrest the situation. All these attacks can be stopped but until there is that will and sincerity of purpose, we will continue to witness this.

“The government needs to put its capacity to use and those that have been given the responsibility, particularly those at the command and control level to give the right command at the right time for law and order to be enforced.

“Law cannot be enforced until the right command is given. And if we allow sentiment to dictate what command is to be given communities will continue to suffer losses. My constituency is tired of weeping, losing lives every day, those behind the killings are known.”

Senator Gyang implored President Muhammadu Buhari and other relevant security agencies to take the interview granted the Channel TV by a retired Naval Officer very serious and work on the statement to change the narratives of insecurity in the country.

“All he said are known to everybody in the intelligent and government circle that it is lack of sincerity of purpose that has been the bane of the inability of our armed forces to tackle terrorism,” he said.
