Kogi State governor said many politicians are being groomed across the three Senatorial district, out of which the best would emerge as his successor when he concludes his second tenure.

Speaking in Lokoja, Monday, he expressed optimism that at the opportune time, the person who will eventually emerge will be the best for Kogi State.

“At an appropriate time, I know that the person will emerge, and whoever emerges will be the best for Kogi State.

“I am grooming leaders across the state, from the local to the state level. By the time I will be concluding my second term in office.

Yahaya Bello said he will pick his successor, saying the person picked will be be the best for Kogi State and will do better than him.

“I want to assure you that anybody picked at the end of the day would be good for the state. I want to also assure you that the best person that would do even better than me shall emerge, by the grace of God”.

He further gave reasons the former Lagos State governor and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, saying the purported pact between the president and the former Lagos governor is not binding.

Bello, whose campaign posters for the presidency have littered parts of the country, in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust, said the leader of the APC would be convinced to support a young aspirant to succeed Buhari.

Tinubu, who played a key role in the formation of the ruling party and victory of President Buhari, is yet to declare for the presidency, but his body language shows he may throw his hat in the ring.
