The APC group operating under the umbrella of Concerned Progressive Stakeholders (CPS), have claimed that sixth columnists within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, fold were plotting the downfall of the party ahead of 2023 general election.

The group claimed even when about six thousand Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) pledged their loyalty to the Mai Mala-Buni-led Caretaker Committee.

On the recent suit againat the APC, leader of the group, Dr Garus Gololo accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of being behind the recent suit against the Caretaker Extra/Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the APC, but was optimistic that they would overcome it.

The group on Sunday in Abuja said the complainants were doing a hatchet job.

Gololo berated persons he described as beneficiaries of the APC “who have sold their souls to money and quick gains, and are therefore committed to doing the billings of their pay masters.”

According to him, those behind the lawsuit are the same “the persons that made the party to lose elections in River, Bauchi and Zamfara States respectively, and have returned to repeat their act against the 2023 elections.”

About 100 aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State had on Wednesday, 18th August, 2021, approached the Federal High Court, in Abuja in an interlocutory injunction praying the court to dissolve the 13-member CECPC and to nullify all their actions.

The plaintiffs listed the Committee Chairman and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, as defendant in the suit.

Also listed as co-defendant in the originating summon registered as Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/938/2021, are the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and others.

CPS in the statement said “it is counter productive for a group of persons who have benefited from the cohesion that has reigned under the Mai Mala Buni led CECPC to turn their backs and drag the party to court.

They should cast their minds back to what was obtainable in the past. And not only that, is it gainful to leave a united, purposeful and focused party to begin doing the billings of a sinking ship.

The PDP is a sinking ship and evidently these fellows doing their billings have set a very wrong priority for themselves.”

He advised those aggrieved to exhaust the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms, warning that “the APC has come to stay and no amount of under hand tactics can cause a repeat of the incident that led to the party losing the States it lost in 2019.

We have learnt from our mistakes, and we are poised to ensure it doesn’t reoccur.”

The group which applauded efforts by the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration to end the insecurity, however noted that “this government has done more than its predecessors did in giving a sense of security to Nigerians.

In fact, it is ending the spate of insecurity caused by previous PDP governments.

You see the number of insurgents that are surrendering to government forces. You also see how the government quickly managed the criminal activities in the East in order to protect lives and properties.

The crises in the Southwest has also been contained. What more can we expect from a result and development oriented administration.

And talking about the economy and infrastructural development, it has done far beyond its predecessors in putting in place necessary measures that would ensure economic growth for the country in the years ahead.”
