The present Federation system of goverment being operated in Nigeria is not suitable for the country, the Chairman Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights Advocacy (CDHR), in Niger State, Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed Jabi has observed.

He noted that the federal system of goverment under the present administration is the most expensive in the world, expressing concern on the way and manner in which the leaders were busy syphoning the common wealth of the nation to better their personal wellbeings forgetting the ordinary citizen to suffer in abject poverty.

Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed Jabi who was speaking in an exclusive interview with CAPITAL POST in Minna at the weekend warned that if the National Assembly failed in their responsibility to amend the Constitution, the citizens would revolt against them in times ahead.

According to him, the country under present administration is dwelling in a serious trying moment in the history of the country which was hitting hard on every segment of the country, warning if the system continue without any remedy, the country would be heading towards disintegration.

He stated that the ongoing agitations in some parts of the country by those that felt aggrieved with the system should be seen as a dangerous pointer to the2023 general election, stressing the needs for National Assembly to without further delay amend the Constitution to bring about the lasting peace and security in the land.

“You can even see the reality of conducting elections in 2023 is bleaking.

“There is agitation here and there. Some groups in this country felt aggrieved with the system.

‘These groups of people felt they are marginalised by successive administrations which has already informed their decision to agitate for their own country.

“So the best for them is to agitate to break out from the country which they see is the proper thing for them.

“In my own opinion, the National Assembly should put the necessary machinery in place to amend the present Constitution which is military based constitution”, he asserted.

He insisted that the country as it is passing through uncertainty with the increasing level of insecurity, poverty, hunger, unemployment, youths restiveness among other challenges which resulted to the ongoing agitations, warning that if apriopriate step was not taken to nip it in the bud, it will lead to unprecedented crisis in the country.

The activist, noted that with the available resources and arable mass of land if properly harnessed by the government at all levels, it will add values to the socio economic development of the country by reducing the increasing proportion of unemployment by the teaming graduates in the country, adding that the trend if not properly look into will lead to unprecedented catastrophy in the country.

“Years in years out we keep on producing graduates from various higher institutions across the country. These graduates keep roaming about in search of jobs that does not exist.

“The few employed graduates are those that have godfathers in NNPC, CBN, FIR, NPA and other lucrative organizations in the country, leaving the ordinary children of common man at their own mercy.

In some cases, these people engaged their children even before their graduation, and you think these common men children would not revolt against these godfathers in time to come”? he asked.

Comrade Abdullahi Jabi, expressed the fear that with the increasing rates of insecurity and the rate of jobless graduates in the country, if care was not taken they would not even be 2023 election,”because the country is heading towards uncertainty with the level of insecurity across the northeast, northwest and even northcentral state.

“With all these security challenges what gives you the impression that the 2023 elections would be conducted?”

Speaking further, he stated that the activities of armed bandits and cattle rustlers in the north west and the north Central state have sent farmers out from their communities which had already resulted to food insecurity in the country thereby creating untold hunger warning that if the ugly trend was not arrested it will lead to more femine in the land.

He then called on well meaning individual and critical stakeholders in the Nigeria project to as a matter of urgency find a lasting solution to the barrage of political, social and security problem that rear its ugly face on all segment of the country in the over all interest of the nation.
