Attack on journalists: NUJ demands immediate investigation, arrest of pepertrators
By Mark Moses
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council has condemned the unwarranted attack on Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVC) crew on Tuesday night at Dadin Kowa area of Jos.
The NUJ Chairman, Plateau State Mr Paul Jatau and Secretary Mr Peter Amine in a press statement issued on Wednesday demand immediate arrest of the attackers by security, saying the Union will not stand by and watch its members being harmed.
“These innocent and harmless journalists who were in a branded vehicle that was conveying them from night duty to their respective homes at about 10:30pm on the 17th of August at the close of work did no one any harm.
“That journalists are, to all discerning people, a bridge between the government and the citizenry thus being deliberately targeted is unacceptable.
“The NUJ is therefore calling on security agencies to apprehend the miscreants to forestall future occurrence and since the area is identified, the community should be made to fix the vehicle the miscreants destroyed.
“This is imperative because the said unfortunate event took place during curfew hours”.
