Rukuba violence: Unijos female student killed in reprisal attack on Sunday

A 100 Level female student studying Religion and Philosophy, Faculty of Arts of the University of Jos, Miss Doris Bitrus Danboyi has been killed on Sunday in reprisals attack following the killing of 22 commuters on Saturday.

A source from the family told our reporter that the student was killed on Sunday along Bauchi Road while going for Church Service.

Also a Student Union Leader of the Faculty of Arts, Students Association University of Jos John Izan disclosed that the female Student was killed on her way to church on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile the Management of University of Jos is yet to issue a statement on the killing of the student, but has suspended the ongoing second semester 2019/2020 academic Session Examination.

Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications of the University, Mr
Abdullahi Abdullahi in a Press Statement issued on Sunday in Jos said the suspension is as a result of the unfortunate security breach that occurred in some parts of Jos metropolis which has led the Plateau State Government to impose a 24-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area.

“Management of the University of Jos has approved the suspension of the ongoing Second Semester Examinations for the 2019/2020 Academic Session.

“Consequently, all Examinations earlier scheduled between Monday 16th and Saturday 21st, August, 2021 have been suspended until further notice.

“All Students of the University residing in the various hostels are hereby strongly advised to remain within their hostels of residence and avoid unnecessary movements as Management has been working round the clock in close collaboration with the security agencies and the Plateau State Government to ensure that the lives and properties of members of the University Community especially Students are adequately protected. Students that are resident outside the Campuses are also advised to remain at home during this period.

The Statement directed all Staff of the University to remain at home while the 24-hour curfew remains in effect.

The University appreciate the Government, Security Agencies as well as members of the public who have shown great concern about the plight of the University during this difficult period.

“Members of the University Community especially Staff and Students are hereby advised to exercise caution and comply with all security directives during this period.
