World International Youth day: Plateau government mobilise 70 youth leaders for agric sensitisation
The Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development in Plateau State Hon. Victor Lapang has disclosed that the state Youth Ministry has selected 70 youth leaders across the 17 Local Government areas of the state to be sensitised on making agriculture a source of income and livelihood as part of Marking the world International Youth day in the State.
Hon. Lapang while briefing Journalists in his office on Wednesday in Jos, said the Ministry is organising a symposium for the youths in the state in partnership with Centre for the Advocacy of Justice and Rights (CAJR) Jos with support from USAID which focuses on making agriculture a source for income and livelihoods.
He said Resource Persons have been engaged to Speak on this years theme of the international youth day which is, “transformation food system: Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”.
The Commissioner added that some of the societal and social ills that affects the youths such as drug abuse, gender-based violence, unemployment, alcoholism and violent conflicts will be discuss during the Symposium slated for tomorrow in Jos.
“In line with the theme highlights for this year celebration, there is need to drive efforts to make and encourage Plateau youths to adopt and own agriculture as means of livelihood and be more relevant, equitable and inclusive for all youth, including new and sustainable innovations.
He said the theme for this years International youth day is rooted in the sustainable Development goal of the 2030 Agenda for ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Lapang noted that there is need for inclusive support mechanisms that ensure youth continue to amplify efforts collectively to restore the planet and protect life, while integrating biodiversity in the transformation of food systems.
