Group commends CBN for withdrawal of forex from BDC operators, says it will reduce terrorism activities
A group, African Centre for Justice and Human Rights has commended the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, for withdrawing forex from the Bureau De Change operators, expressing optimism that the development would curtail terrorists activities in Nigeria.
The ACJHR said, the development was a fatal blow to money laundering, terrorism financing and other illicit activities.
They commended the CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele
for the uncommon courage and boldness to put a stop to the sale of Forex to Bureau De Change operators, adding that unregulated activities of operators have done damages to the nation over time.
In a statement by the Director of Operations and Programme Development Barr.Chioma Udonsi, she said: “This is a very fatal blow to money launderers and terrorist financiers. It was unexpected, surgical and very precise. Many of them will not survive this hence it will clean up the system.
The statement went further “This policy will restore the real value of the Naira and this initial slip by the Naira against the Dollar is just very temporary and in the coming days Nigerians will appreciate the wisdom and foresight of the CBN Governor in implementing this policy.”
“Forex will be scarce for money launderers and treasury looters so it is either they carry the Naira out of the country or they put them in the banks where they can be traced, identified and retrieved.
This is a major economic and anti-corruption policy and we hail the Governor of the CBN for this”.
