Hushppupi: DCP Abba Kyari suspended, IGP asked to provide further details

DCP, Abba Kyari has been suspended as head of Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force with immediate effect.

His suspension from exercising the powers of that office followed the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police, to the Police Service Commission that has disciplinary powers.

Abba Kyari is a deputy Commissioner of Police.

CAPITAL POST earlier reported that he was declared wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the Unites States, in a case he had investigated.

He was said to have investigated an internet scammer, Hushppupi and his ally who alledgedly duped a Quatari businessman to the tune of $1.1 million.

The letter of suspension stated that he remained suspended until the outcome of the investigation in respect of his indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States.

Immediately his indictment was announced by the Unites States FBI, Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba promised to carry out investigation of Kyari.

The Commission thereafter, also directed the Inspector General of Police to furnish it with information on further development on the matter for necessary further action.

The Commission’s decision which was conveyed in a letter with reference, PSC/POL/D/153/vol/V/138 to the Inspector General of Police on Sunday, August 1st, 2021, was signed by Hon. Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court and Honourable Commissioner 1 in the Commission on behalf ofCommission’s Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector General of Police who is currently on leave.
