Nasarawa LG elections: APC Screening Committee Chair speaks on consensus as democratic option

The Nasarawa All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee Chairman, Me Philip Dada has stated that consensus candidacy is a democratic option and best form of managing political interests of aspirants.

He spoke at the backdrop of screening APC aspirants for the Local Government Councils election in Nasarawa State which is ongoing in Lafia on Friday.

Dada described consensus as a key components for maturity to be the process, as such will bring peace and all inclusiveness and harmony in the operation of democracy in action.

He made the statement while responding to questions from journalists at the venue of the screening premises.

“I want to inform you that so far, Obi Local Government had presented only one chairmanship aspirant for the exercise through consensus and we are happy with the way and manner this consensus was reached.

Mr. Dada said the point here is to encourage every other communities to see the beauty in agreeing to consensus because it is a reflection of maturity and willingness of people who are called to service not those who are self seeking.

“When you want to serve and your people says stop your ambition for now and wait for another time you should willingly, accept the honor to stay aside because what goes around comes around. Today if you are asked to stepdown for someone, tomorrow someone will be asked to step down for you and that should be the spirit.


“Obi Local Government has set the pace it is our prayers that other communities will follow this act of maturity and the fact that people bought forms doesn’t mean they should all go to contest. It is consensus building in the process and it will go on up till the time of actual primaries.
