Over 100 cases won in 7 years – DPP Niger

Over 100 cases have been won from High court up to supreme Court by the present Director of Public Prosecution in the Office of the Attorney General of Niger State from 2014 to date the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), in Niger State, Mr Moses Chiroma has said.

He explained that since he assumed office as the DPP in the State Ministry of Justice, in 2014, he had secured over 100 conviction of capital offences of rape, culpable homicide, armed robbery and other heinous offences.

In a release made available and obtained by CAPITAL POST in Minna, stated that the office of the DPP was able to prosecute and won virtually all cases within the period of his assumption in office while a total of 30 cases are still pending in appeal and the Apex courts for determination.

According to the release, the success recorded in the prosecution of the cases was as a result of the collective synergy with the state and senior counsel in the office of the Attorney general in the Ministry of Justice adding that he will continue to carry the state counsel along in ensuring speedy prosecution of cases in the state.

The DPP explained that the office of the Director of Public Prosecution in the Ministry of Justice under his watch was able to secure the highest numbers of convictions as compared to successive DPP in the state.

He attributed the success recorded by his office to the collective support and working synergies between him and the State counsel in the Attorney general chamber in the Ministry stating that the state counsel in the Ministry are committed in the discharge of their duty.

He noted that despite the challenges facing his office among others he was able to surmount the challenges and recorded the success his office was able to achieve in his time assuring that he will perform more if given the needed support to enable him put more efforts in the discharge of his duty.

While appreciating the efforts and support of the state counsel in the ministry of Justice for carrying out duty diligently even with challenges facing them he urged them not to be demoralized in the discharge of their duty stressing the need for them to continue to e up and doing inthe discharge of their professional responsibility as Ministers in the temple of Justice.

“As trained and professional in our callings as public legal practitioners we have a duty to perform our duty to our principal that pay us our wages as public legal practitioners.

“We are not like our learned professional colleagues who are into private Bar. So we need to leave above board in the discharge of our responsibility to our principal the goverment.

“I want to appeal to you the state counsel , we don’t have any reason not to perform to the best of our professional responsibility as ic legal practitioners In the office of the Attorney general and the commissioner for Justice in Niger State” he admonished.”
