Former President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, on Thursday, joined his colleagues for the session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, IPTP, holding in the Republic of Montenegro, July 15 to 16, 2021.

Ekweremadu, who became Nigeria’s sole founding Member of the IPTP in 2018, will also present Nigeria’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Parliament already signed by the President of the Nigerian Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly, Senator Ahmed Lawan, on behalf of Nigeria.

This will enable Nigerian citizens to start benefitting from fully funded programmes in the areas of conflict resolution, tolerance, and peace building in universities around the world. The MoU will also enable Nigerian parliamentarians to benefit from short training programmes sponsored by the IPTP.

Ahead of the plenary, however, the lawmaker participated in the Bureau Meeting of the leadership of the parliament and also chaired a meeting of the Committee on Legal and Legislative matters, which he heads.

The notice of plenary was conveyed to the Senator in a letter signed by the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, the mother body of the specialised international parliament, Ahmed Bin Mohamed Aljawaran.

It is recalled that the IPTP has spoken out and also been part of international initiatives aimed at resolving international issues such as the political situation in Libya, xenophobic attacks in South Africa, among others.
