The Tebyan Cultural Institute, which is part of Iran’s Islamic propaganda organization, created the app Hamdam.
Iran’s cyberspace police commander, Ali Mohammad Rajabi, told the Guardian UK that Hamdam is the only state-sanctioned platform of its sort in the Islamic republic.
The app is said to utilize “artificial intelligence” to discover matches primarily for bachelors wanting permanent marriage and a single spouse according to reports.
Before using the app, users would have to verify their identities and take a psychological test.
When a match is established, the dating app will introduce the families together with the presence of service consultants who will accompany the pair for the next four years after their marriage.
Tebyan’s head, Komeil Khojasteh, warned at the presentation that foreign forces were threatening Iran’s family values.
“Family is the devil’s target, and [Iran’s enemies] seek to impose their own ideas” he added, adding that the app will build “healthy” families.
Hamdam’s arrival comes as Iran’s officials have issued a warning about the country’s rising marriage age and dwindling birth rates.
Iran’s yearly population growth slowed to 1.29 percent in 2020, with more than half of the country’s population under the age of 35.
If no action is taken, the government has warned that it will become one of the world’s oldest countries in three decades.
Iran’s parliament enacted a bill in March 2021 requiring the government to provide financial incentives for marriage and families with more than two children. However, the guardian council has yet to ratify it.
