Breaking: Buhari’s ex-Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun doesn’t need NYSC certificate to serve – Court
President Muhammadu Buhari’s former Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun has been cleared of any wrong doing with regards to having the National Youth Service Corps before serving in the Nigerian government.
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday ruled that an NYSC discharge certificate was not a prerequisite for Kemi Adeosun to take up a ministerial appointment or to serve in appointive and elective offices of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The court held that Adeosun who graduated in a London University in 1989 was already 36 years of age, therefore, exempted from participating in the NYSC scheme.
Justice Taiwo Oladipupo in his judgement confirmed that Mrs Kemi Adeosun graduated from a London University.
“She was born in 1967 and lived in London till 2003 and came back to Nigeria and became a Nigerian citizen through 1999 Constitution as amended.
The judge submitted that the National Youth Service scheme came into force on May 29, 1999 hence it shouldn’t have effect on her.
“Given that she was overaged to serve at 36 years, it would have been a grave crime against the State if she had optes to serve”, the judge maintained.
Mrs Adeosun served as Minister of Finance in the first tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
