Close associates of the most wanted Nnamdi Kanu alledgedly sold him out to the Nigerian government in Nairobi, Kenya, according to a group, International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law.
The group claimed, he was lured into government’s government’s hand because of some internal wranglings within the tribal stock.
The group said that Kanu’s arrest at an airport in Kenya was initially taken to be ‘a minor immigration issue’, which later turned out to be a clear act of ‘strawmen’ and subsequently attracted the involvement of the Nigerian diplomatic officials.
In a statement which was
signed by its Principal Officers, Emeka Umeagbalasi, Obianuju Igboeli, and Chidimma Udegbunam, said there was a fracas between Kanu and some Igbo men which caught the attention of diplomatic mission and the security attachees waded in to arrest him in Nairobi, Kenya.
Kanu has been struggling for Biafra to secceed over a decade, jumped bail after he was arrestef and arraigned sometime in 2018 and since then, he has been living in UK.
After his arrest in Kenya he was immediately handed over to
Nigerian security attaches and diplomatic officials after providing paper evidence that he is being wanted in Nigeria for the continuation of his trial.
The group however praised Nigerian security operatives that Kanu was not brought back to the country in body bags.
In a statement which was obtained by CAPITAL POST read: “The leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, was arrested on the Sat night of June 26, 2021, in Kenya, a member of the African Union.
“He had travelled to Israel, having transited from Germany to Israel before heading to Kenya, where he was intercepted on Saturday night, 26th June 2021.
“His arrest was initially taken to be a minor immigration issue, which later turned out to be a clear act of ‘strawmen’ and subsequently attracted the involvement of the Nigerian diplomatic officials and security attachés at Nairobi, the country’s capital.
The International Society cautioned against victimisation of Kanu noting that the rule of law should be observed in his trial.
They further allay fears over his safety now that he was likely to spend his time of trial in custody of the Department of Security Services.
Reacting to the development, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) warned the Nigerian government not to harm their leader for whatever reaaons.
In a statement which was issued by the spokesman of the proscribed group, Emma Powerful said they were investigation how their leader got into the hands of Nigerian government.
Meanwhile, IPOB has warned that no harm should happen to its leader.
