Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello has written to the State House of Assembly to stop grants for the former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and others.
Bello said the State can no longer pay grants and other priviledges to former governors, hence, it has to stop particularly that Kogi is not financially viable.
The move would also affect former deputy governors that such grants and privileges wouldn’t be available after leaving office.
In the executive communication to Kogi State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, the Speaker of the House, Matthew Kolawole, read the Executive bill forwarded to the Assembly by the Governor seeking to stop special grants to former Governors, deputies and others in the state.
According to the Governor’s letter, the State could no longer afford paying due to financial constraints.
In another development, the Governor forwarded the names of Akintola Muritala Kolade and Saliu Omeiza Otu for screening into the state Judicial Service Commission and as Chairman Kogi State Public procurement respectively.
Meanwhile, the House of Assembly has commenced the third legislative session without a celebration due to the industrial action embarked upon by Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN)
The Speaker disclosed that the celebration of the legislative session has been scheduled for another date.
CAPITAL POST reports that Kogi State has three former governors since the return of democracy in 1999 with Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and Alhaji Idris Wada still alive.
The first executive governor of the State, Prince Abubakar Audu died in 2015.
