The socio-cultural organization of the Tangale nation of Gombe State known as Tangale Community Development Association (TDA) has accused Governor Mohammadu Inuwa Yahaya of oppressing the Tangale nation of the State with the imposition of a non native as the ‘Mai Tangale’ against the will and tradition of the people.

The Sarkin Zangon Tangale and Member of Trustees of the Socio-cultural body of Tangale people, Dr. Daniel Maddo made this allegation during a press conference held on Friday in Jos, Plateau State Capital.

Change of Name

He said the mysterious death of the late occupant, HRM Dr. Abdu Buba Maisheru II created a vacuum that led to the imposition of “One Mallam Danaldi Sanusi Maishanu” by the Governor even when he got ‘only two votes’ with Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba’ who got five votes of the kingmakers with the third person also going with two votes respectively.

They alleged that Governor Inuwa has continued to violate various provisions of the State Chieftaincy Law as well as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And has been making utterances that is capable of causing genocide.

Dr. Maddo fingered the Governor as the mastermind to the lingering uproar in the Southern Senatorial District of Gombe State as accused to have brought “over 500 security personnel as well as political thugs known as Yan Kalare in addition to the high caliber government functionaries and officials and other security outfits during the election of Mai Tangale to intimidate the Tangale people.”

He said, “In spite of the flaws in the process and the actions of the Governor, the intimidation and financial inducement to the Tangale Kingmakers, they courageously voted, Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba in tandem with the Tangale Native Law and Custom ermerging as the new Mai Tangale and was celebrated by the Tangale people.

“But unfortunately, the popular decision of the people was jettisoned against the principle of natural justice, equity and good conscience.”

Dr. Maddo added, ” the Governor continue to make inciting utterances inimical to peace confirming his actions” against that of the Emir of Funakaye who died after Mai Tangale and could not in anyway interfere with the process that brought on board the current Emir of Funakaye in the State.

The Tangale nation made its stand that “Mallam Danaldi Sanusi Maiyamba (Danladi Maishanu) should stop parading himself as the Mai Tangale in the interest of peace, tranquility and good governance.”

They maintained that in line with the Gombe State Chieftaincy Law and the 1999 constitution as amended. “Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba is the duly elected and recognized 16th Mai Tangale” and cautioned that the Governor must not incite other groups against the Tangale nation with his utrances as such will lead to “genocide.”

Dr. Mado however said they will follow the judicial steps up to the apex court to get justice.

“The tangale people are peace loving and have decided to approach the judiciary in resolving the issues surrounding Mai Tangale stool. The judiciary being the last hope of the common man, we hope it will rectify this great injustice done to tangale people”
