Breaking: Abducted Kebbi student dies during bandits, security operatives cross fire

One out of a yet to be confirmed number of abducted students of the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State, has died amid gunfire between security forces and bandits.

This development was confirmed by the Deputy Force Commander of the Joint Task Force in the North-West Zone, Air Commodore Abubakar AbdulKadir, in Gusau while speaking with crime correspondents on Friday.

He disclosed that four students and a teacher were rescued in the operation.

The Commander said the forces encountered the kidnappers earlier on Friday at their blocking point and engaged them.

“At that point, they abandoned five of the students and one of the teachers. Unfortunately, I think we have lost one of the students.”

He explained that rescue operation was ongoing while he didn’t comment whether there was casualty on the side of bandits.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nafiu, Kebbi State Command in a statement made available to journalists explained that the number of abducted students were yet to be confirme, but rescue operations would be intensified.

“The white Hilux Van with registration number KBSJ 29, belonging to a High Court Judge, with inscription of Kebbi State Judiciary, hijacked by the bandits along Birnin Yauri road, was the one used in perpetrating such a dastardly act.”

Bandits stormed the college around 12:30pm on Thursday and abducted many of the students.
