Breaking: Benue community gets notice of attack from Fulani herdsmen

Attacks on communities in Benue are far from over, considering the revelation by the Chairman of Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, Hon. James Oche on Wednesday that residents of the LG have been served with notice of attack by Fulani herders.

The pending attack has left residents of the Local Government live in perpetual fear.

The LG boss disclosed to journalists while on an official visit to the Local Government in continuation of their assessment tour of Local Governments in the state.

According to him, Fulani herders sent the message directly to the Ado Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke that they were coming to attack the residents.

CAPITAL POST recalled that Ado Local Government in Benue South Senatorial district in the last two months been under arms attack by the marauding Fulani herders with heavy casualties.

The devastation has forced thousands of victims to the Internally Displaced Persons camps.

“The situation is grossly precarious and we live under constant fear,” he said.

Oche stressed that Benue State, particularly Ado LG has lost more than 200 persons to herdsmen attacks as well while more than one hundred and fifty people are currently in various hospitals across the State.

He reiterated his commitment to the implementation of open grazing laws in the State, adding his administration wasbin support of Governor Samuel Ortom’s zero tolerance policy for open grazing and vowed that the Local Government would go extra mile to implement the law.

He said all arrangements have been concluded by his administration to legate against open grazing at the LG level.

“When the law comes into effect, it would be an offence for any herder to be found openly grazing his livestock within the boundaries of the Local Government”, the Charrman maintained.

He warned that anyone discovered to have patronized any cattle dealer outside a ranch would be similarly prosecuted.
