Buhari set to visit Lagos amid plans for June 12, mass protest

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday pay a one day visit to Lagos for an official function.

Saturday being June 12, is Nigeria’s official democracy day that is celebrated annually.

Buhari’s official visit is however amid plans for mass protest by Lagosians who insisted that there was nothing to celebrate in the light of worsening insecurity in his administration.

The planned massive June 12 protest would take place to prove a point that all is not well with Nigerians.

But Mr. President’s visit is to launch the Deep Blue Project of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) on Thursday.

In a statement by the Police Spokesperson confirming President Buhari’s visit, Muyiwa Adejobi, said, the Deep Blue Project if launched strengthen national security on land, sea and air, as initiated by the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the Federal Ministry of Defence.

The mass protest, CAPITAL POST learnt would take place take place at Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos.

Nigeria’s Democracy Day is a public holiday commemorated on June 12 to mark the restoration of democracy to the country.

Some Nigerian youths have announced their plans to boycott the public holiday by holding protests.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had also announced that they will evoke nationwide protests on June 12, in a bid to persuade the Nigerian government to take stronger action against the daily kidnapping and killing of students and others throughout the country.

Members of NANS insist there is nothing worth celebrating as the country continues to be terrorised by the criminal gangs.
