Nasarawa workers jubilate as government begin payment of minimum wage

Workers in the payroll of Nasarawa State government burst into jubilation, as government commenced the payment of the N30,000.00 new national minimum wage to Civil servants on Grade level 1-6 in the State.

This was made known by the State Accountant General, Mr. Zakka Yakubu.

AG confirmed the commencement of minimum wage, saying the implementation takes effect from this June, 2021 to civil servants who are at the lower cadre of the rung.

“As I speak now, negotiation is ongoing regarding those in grade level 7 and above. He said.

The state Financial head, revealed that the implementation of the new national minimum wage, came after series of meetings by a committee set up by government to look into the matter with a view to come up with a stand.

“And at the end of the exercise the committee generally agreed for the commencement of the new salary structure for Civil servants on level 1-6, while negotiation continues for those from level 7 and above.

CAPITAL POST report that, Governor, Abdullahi Sule in his desire to better the wellbeing of Civil servants in the state made a pledge for implementation of the new national minimum wage the last time when he received the National leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of the Women Commission, at the Government House Lafia.

The governor said: “My administration is willing to implement the new national minimum wage for civil servants from grade level 1-6 Insha Allah. He assured them.

Some workers who spoke to our correspondent expressed gratitude to Governor, Sule for fulfilling his promise to ffect the implementation of the new national minimum wage for them.

“It is our fervent prayers that, Allah will continue to give him the wisdom and knowledge like that of King Solomon in piloting the affairs of our dear state and beyond.

“With this increase in our salaries, some of the challenges confronting our respective homes will be over if not all, just as they extended similar prayers and best wishes to the state, Accountant General, Mr. Zakka Yakubu”, a jubilant Civil Servant told CAPITAL POST in Lafia.
