Malian gun runner arrested with machine gun chain drive at Nigeria-Benin border town

There was a major breakthrough as operatives of the Nigeria Police arrested Mr. Abubakar Mohammed alias ‘Buzu’ who is of Mali origin.

He is a transnational gun runner and was caught with
General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition chain drive.

The gun runner who supplies guns to criminal elements in Nigeria was arrested by the Police team in Tsamiya, a border town between Benin Republic and Nigeria.

Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba in a statement on Wednesday said the GPMG ammunition chain drive he was caught with had a holding capacity of 1,600 rounds of ammunition.

The statement said: “One Abubakar Mohammed a.k.a Mallam Buzu from Mali who is a transnational gunrunner was arrested by the Police team in Tsamiya, a border town between Benin Republic and Nigeria.

“He was arrested with a GPMG ammunition chain drive with holding capacity of 1,600 rounds of ammunition.”

The Police furtjer revealed that that three suspects responsible for production of fake vehicle number plates, including replica of number plates of government, diplomatic and security agencies have also been arrested.

He said investigations revealed that the suspects supplied the number plates to criminal elements who use same to beat security checks during their operations.

He disclosed that 80 fake number plates were recovered from the gang.

Transborder crime has been a major challenge to the Federal Government of Nigeria for quite sometime given that bandits and criminal elements gets sophisticated weapons for their operations.
