Late Gulak: Senate observes one minute silence

The Senate, on Tuesday, observed a minute’s silence in honour of former Political Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, late Ahmed Gulak.

This happened as the upper chamber condemned the gruesome murder of Gulak in Owerri, the Imo State capital on his way to the Sam Mbakwe Airport on Sunday morning.

The resolutions of the upper chamber followed a point of order moved by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, at plenary.

The Senate also mandate the Senate Ad hoc Committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution to pay a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.

In the similar development Senator Abdullahi Sabi from Niger North in the red chamber stand under order 43 of the Senate rules to present the killings in his senatorial zone.

Lamented that up to five Local Government Areas have been taken hostage by the bandits which causes a great challenge to the State and the country at large.

Senator, in his prayers ask Senators for a munite silence for soul lost in the attacks, and urged NEMA to send relief materials to the families of the affected citizens.

The President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawal decried that the one munite silence observed today by the Senate is almost six and all is killing and murder it doesn’t speak good of this country, therefore we as country, we need to agree for peace in this country.

President Muhammdu Buhari, on Tuesday, forwarded the name of Major General Farouk Yahaya, to the Senate for screening and confirmation for appointment as the Chef of Army Staff (COAS).

Furthermore, Senate President Ahmad Lawan read Buhari’s letter of request at plenary on Monday.

Buhari had named Major General Yahaya of Course 37 as the acting COAS following the demise of Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru in a NAF aircraft that crashed in Kaduna at the weekend.
