Nasarawa: Outgoing Toto LG boss, Dauda hands over N13,000 at night, run out of town to avoid embarrassment
The outgoing Chairman of Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Prince Nuhu Dauda has reportedly handed a paltry sum of N13,000 in the LG account to his caretaker successor at night and escaped from the town.
Sources told CAPITAL POST Monday night that in the last three years, it has been turbulence for the staff of Toto LG and the people as no presence of the LG administration was felt, even as salaries and pension are not paid.
As at 31st May, 2021, the LG boss handed over, only N13,000 was left in the LG account, CAPITAL POST, has learnt.
It was further learnt that the immediate Chairman handed over at night having learn’t the previous days that staff of the LG and some residents were planning to embarrass him for poor handling of LG affairs.
It was learnt that most Local Government Chairmen in Nasarawa wouldn’t stay in their LG headquarters, but always hanging around their Secretariat in Lafia waiting for when the LG allocation is distributed.
Another source who merely identified himself as Yahaya, but confirmed that he is a stakeholder in the All Progressives Congress (APC) maintained that the immediate past Chairman of Toto LG never execute any projects in their area.
“Prince Nuhu is the worst. I hope he will not go to Lafia to confuse the governor that he want to contest for the second time because he will not win.
“Where are the projects he claimed to have used the money for? Nothing!”.
“He came and met solar streetlights initiated by his predecessor but today the panels have disappeared. Insecurity and workers welfare were neglected during his time.”
Meanwhile, it was celebration of some sorts in Umaisha when news filtered into town at night that he has handed over. Residents took to streets to celebrate.
“His administration has not only squandered our resources but has also destroyed lives. He is the worst Chairman ever to have manned the affairs of the council”, a resident of Umaisha, said.
An APC women leader from Gadabuke, described Prince Dauda as an error whose era has gone for good of Umaisha people, saying he is a “corrupt leader whose sole aim of seeking public office is to steal”.
Reacting however, Dauda denied any wrong doing while in office, stressing that he has placed the area on a good pedestal for development to thrive.
He stated that his administration has recorded some landmark achievements especially in the aspect of security.
Contrary to his claim on security, Toto LG in the last three years has been a hotspot for kidnapping and banditry attacks.
