The burial of Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru was however not without argument by his family who insisted that he should be buried without a coffin in accordance with Islamic injunction.
But the military authority said he would be buried with a coffin according to their own tradition.
The argument delayed the burial rites of the late military officer till late afternoon on Saturday.
The family of Attahiru later allowed the military to bury him after they were convinced by some top military officers who were already available for the burial of the late COAS.
Immediately the differences was reconciled, diggers were asked to widen the grave to accommodate the coffin.
The late Chief of Staff and 10 other military officers took off from Abuja to Kaduna on Friday in a military aircraft that was billed to land at the Nigerian Airforce Base in the Mando area of Kaduna, but couldn’t landed.
Report said the aircraft had challenges of inclement weather and diverted to Kaduna International Airport before it crashed.
Apart from Attahiru, other victims were Brigadier Generals Ahmed Kuliya, O Olayinka, and MI Abdulkadir; Majors N Hamza, LA Hayat; Sergeants O Adesina, and Umar; as well as Aircraftman OM Oyedepo, Flt Lt TO Asaniyi, and Flt Lt AA Olufade.
They were all buried at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja on Saturday, in full military honours 24 hours after the incident.
