COVID-19: Humanitarian Minister assures effective implementation of FG cash grant
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq in Abuja assured that the implementation of the Social Investment Programme (SIP) by her ministry would be effective.
She explained that the reform had been carried out to effectively drive the programme as against what it used to be in the past.
According to her, the issue of disbursement raised by the leadership of the National Assembly at various meetings would be taken into consideration that will make the programme acceptable to all Nigerians.
She said: “Contrary to the verdict made by the leadership of the National Assembly over the implementation of the Social Investment Programme by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, we have undertaken reforms aimed at implementing a good scheme to the poor.
“The ministry has put up measures to effectively implement the social intervention programme with the disbursement of packages as palliatives to cushion the effect of the vulnerable Nigerians directly to the beneficiaries.
“The issues raised by the leadership of the National Assembly on the execution of the disbursement aimed at assuaging the plight of poor Nigerians against COVID-19 can be tackled in a manner that will be acceptable to all Nigerians.
The Minister further explained that her ministry in consultations with state governors have agreed to come up with accurate data on primary schools so as to embark on food rationing to households, hence, the pupils are on holidays .
According to her, the ministry had also obtained a comprehensive and digitized register that will put an end to fears raised by National Assembly on both the school feeding programme and the vulnerable people.
