The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions has summoned the Chairman of Code of Conduct Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar, to appear before it on June.
Umar was expected to testify and undergo interrogation of the Committee panel when he appears.
There had been a petition written against him for alledgedly assaulting a security guard, Mr. Clement Sagwak at Banex Plaza in Wuse 2 few weeks ago.
He said to have taken ill earlier hence he couldn’t personally appeared before the panel while the legal unit of the Code of Conduct were represented, but the Committee insisted on Danladi Umar’s appearance, hence the Committee rejected his proxies.
The Committee which was headed by Senator Ayo Akinyelure after rejected Umar’s representatives, gave another time for his appearance, saying the assault claim by the petitioner was a serious offence.
The Chief Judge has been under serious criticism over the alledged assault on a private security guard.
Meanwhile, the petition seeking Danladi Umar’s appearance before the Senate Committee was introduced and laid by Senator Instifanus Gyang representing Plateau North Senatorial district.
