Security forces in deadly battle foils Boko Haram attack on outskirts of Maiduguri [Photo]
Boko Haram insurgents late Tuesday swooped on Jiddari Polo, an outskirts of Maiduguri in a procession from Aldawari axis, but were vehemently repelled by security forces.
The insurgents attempted to attack soft targets when gallant troops in conjuction with the Nigerian Police, Youth Vigilante and hunters’ firepower made terrorists to beat a retreat.
The troops however in pursuit of criminals inflicted injuries and neutralised nine of them while many escaped with gunshot wounds.
Among the items recovered from the terrorists are one Buffalo Gun Truck, three motorcycles, three Browning Machine Guns, a Rocket Propelled Gun and four AK 47 rifles.
Other items recovered include one Improvised Explosive Device, sixteen 12v batteries.
Reacting to Tuesday’s operation, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru has commended the gallantry of troops and urged them to keep up the tempo of the operation.
Military authority advised residents to remain calm and go about their festivities.

Meanwhile, the endless attacks has crippled business activities and dilapidated infrastructure in the State with no power, lack of water and other basic amenities.
