Rep Darlington Nwokocha celebrates Abia Speaker on his NUJ press freedom awards

The Honourable Member representing the good people of Isiala Ngwa North/South in the Nigerian House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Darlington Nwokocha, has felicitated with the Honourable Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji on his Distinguished Friend of the Media awards by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Rep. Darlington said Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji has been a patriot defender of press freedom, whose active support and immense contributions towards deepening the role of the media in a democracy have been outstanding.

He noted that the Honourable Speaker has for many years dedicated himself to serving humanity especially the youth, promoting democratic culture, philanthropy and peace building as a professional and a politician of repute.

The Isiala-Ngwa Representative further stated that the award of “Defender of Press Freedom” given to the Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji alongside other distinguished Nigerians including the Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker, Nigrian House of Representatives, His Excellency, Distinguished Sen. Douye Diri, Executive Governor, Bayelsa State, Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari, GMD, NNPC and Mr. Yakubu Ibn Mohammed, DG, NTA amongst others is a confirmation of the Speaker’s towering leadership capital which he has continued to deploy in excellently steering the ship of one of the most productive state Assembly in Nigeria – The Abia State House of Assembly.

“His Excellency, the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum E. Orji, is one Nigerian that deserves all the accolades and more, because he understands the power of the people through grassroots mobilization and for courageously using the privileges of his public office to support, defend press freedom and champion democratic tenets.”

The 2021 Nigerian Union of Journalists Press Freedom Awards was held at Abuja Sheraton Hotel and Towers on May 5, 2021.
