Panic grips parts of Kaduna Niger communities as migrant herders sighted

A large group of migrant Fulani herders have been sighted by security agencies around Tafa village, in Kagarko local government area of Kaduna State, on their way to Niger State.

They were however intercepted by security agents who trailed them following distress calls to the security agents by the panicking communities in parts of Kaduna and Niger States.

Change of Name

Confirming the developmentbin a press statement on Thursday, in Kaduna, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, examined that “this followed several distress calls from citizens on movement of armed bandits in the Lambata-Kabbo area of Tafa village, in Kagarko local government area.

The Commissioner said security agents were immediately drafted to the environment to engage them.

He said, “The troops trailed the group to an open field at Toba village, Tafa, in Niger State.

“Upon confirmatory checks, it was discovered that they were herders in transit from Dobi, in Gwagwalada (FCT) and Gawu-Babangida, Lambata (Niger State), en route to their original stations in Jos, Plateau State and Bauchi, Bauchi State.

“A head-count was conducted by the troops, which revealed 53 herders in the traveling party: 9 adult male, 7 young male, and 37 women and children.

“A thorough inspection showed that they had three motorcycles, and no dangerous or incriminating materials were found in their possession.

“Receiving the report, the State governor, Nasir Ahmed el-Rufa’i, thanked the troops for their prompt response in conducting the checks.

El-Rufai wished the herders a safe passage to their destinations”, Aruwan stated.
