Putting smiles on face of ordinary Nigerians gives me joy – Okorocha
The Senator Representing Imo West Senatorial district, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has reiterated the need to uphold and remain committed to the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria.
He stated this at the Unity house, Abuja, when he played host to the Abuja Newspaper Distributors Association, (ANDA) and the Association of Newspaper Vendors in Abuja, (ANVA).
The occasion afforded Owelle Okorocha the opportunity to touch base with group and decry the description often given to Nigeria as the “Poverty capital of the world”.
He said “riding a big car does not give me joy anymore; traveling abroad first class and staying in a big hotel no longer gives me joy, adorning the best ‘babanriga’ and appearing in the best of shoes no longer gives me joy, I don’t find joy being called ‘Excellency’; riding in a convoy because I’m a governor no longer gives me joy, my comfort and joy deeply lies in the fact that I’m able to change the life of someone who have nothing, becomes something and he is smiling.”
“My joy will come when orphans who have no hope of going to school will one day become lawyers and doctors and first class citizens’.
Owelle while commending the group for holding on to the belief that Nigeria will one day be a better place to live said: ‘Seeing you re-assures me that Nigeria is not finished; that we still have hope in this country called Nigeria.
“Nigerians are the best set of people in the world, even amidst difficulty, challenges and poverty and lack Nigerians are able to smile.”
“Because I know that most of you must have come from very poor backgrounds, most of you here are wondering how you can make ends meet; some of you here have challenges of house rent, some of you here cannot even boast of fifty thousand naira (N50,000) in your bank accounts; some of you are living from hand to mouth, but even with all these difficulties of life you still believe in Nigeria”.
“It is only in a few country that you can see such patriotic people, despite these challenges, I am happy to see Nigerians expressing love and friendship amongst all of these.”
Speaking earlier, the President of Abuja Newspaper Distributors Association, Chief Benji Obute commended Owelle Rochas Okorocha for always supporting the interests of the down trodden.
Chief Benji used the occasion to tell Rochas that he remains the biblical ‘messiah’ Nigerians need.
“We are here to let you know that you have our maximum support, with you the challenges of Nigeria is solved.’
