Worried by cheating during JAMB examination which is usually encouraged by parents, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has opened what it called ‘rogue centres.’
The idea of establishing rogue centres is to get hold of cheating candidates writing JAMB exams.
The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede revealed this in Lagos during the ongoing monitoring of the registration for the 2021 UTME.
The Registrar regretted that some parents encourages their wards to cheat in order to score high marks.
He further disclosed that the examination has taken all necessary measures to stop cheating during examinations.
According to him, the rogue centres were disguised in order to get hold of exam cheats, while expressing concern that some candidates still believe they could circumvent the system through patronage of the so called miracle centres.
“We found out that the headquarters of those operating such rogue centres is in Igarra, Edo State and we are clamping down on them.
“It is unfortunate that parents involved in this practice are even educated and rich. People who can afford to pay the huge amount demanded of them. A candidate is expected to pay N4, 700 for registration, but some centres are collecting more than that from candidates.
“Moreover, secondary schools that are collecting more than the official fees from candidates have been reported to the Federal Ministry of Education for necessary action, ” he said.
On National Identification Number (NIN), Oloyede sais the enrolment requirement was to stop impersonation during the examination.
