Why suspension of Water Commsioner accused of kidnapping, rape was put on hold – Kogi government
Kogi State government has discountenanced reports that the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Abdulmuminu Danga has been suspended for alledged kidnapping and rape of Beauty Queen, Elizabeth Oyeniyi.
Abdulmumini Danga was enmeshed in assault, battery and rape, a criminal case that is punishable in prison sentences in law.
In a statement made.available to journalists by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, he said investigation was ongoing, hence, the accused couldn’t have been suspended before the outcome of reports.
“When the issue was brought to the notice of the Governor, he immediately directed thorough investigation into the allegations. He said anyone found culpable will be prosecuted.
“He did that as well leader of the state who understands that one of his key responsibilities is to protect the fundamental rights of the citizens and residents of the State.
“Investigations are ongoing now and we have confidence that the Police will do a thorough job on the matter,” the Commissioner disclosed.
“Suspension is a punishment for wrongdoing. Suspending him now will be sending a wrong signal. He has not been found guilty either via police investigations or law court.
“So, why should he be suspended? If I leveled accusations against you as a journalist, will your organization just suspend you without investigations?
“At this point, we don’t know who is guilty or innocent yet.
Investigations will reveal all that. It is the responsibility of Government to protect both the accuser and the accused until the facts of innocence or guilt are out and the law will surely be applied.
I have told people not to ask me whether he has been suspended or not.
