Security operatives killed IPOB Commander in gun battle on Saturday [Photo]
Militia arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra early Saturday suffered heavy casualties as one its Commanders was eliminated in gun battle with Security operatives at the IPOB’s operational headquarters at Awomama Village in Oru East Local Government Council of Imo State.
Security operatives which includes the Police, military and DSS stormed the village and engage them in gun fire that led to the death of IPOB’s Commander.
Information coming from the Security indicated that IPOB militias were responsible for attack on the Imo State Police Headquarters and the headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service on 5th April, 2021 and other arson going on in Imo State.
IPOB’s militia wing were also responsible for attacks on Police posts in Eastern region currently.
Reports on Saturday’s encounter at Awomama indicated that the militia fiercely engage the forces, but it took a bold and clinical response for the forces to take the militia out.
Findings by Security operatives indicated that the slain Commander who was identified as Ikonso was the over all Commander of the South East and Vice President Designate.
He was killed along six other militia members.
Security operatives said, the operation was meant to rid Imo and other South East States of criminal activities going on there.
Security forces recovered the remains of Ikonso Commander and the six (6) of his fighters.
Several sophisticated weapons including six(6) AK47 rifles, hundreds of ammunition of different caliber and lots of charms including bullet proof charms were recovered from the insurgents.
Security operatives who were injured in the gun battle were taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.
