NGO applauds Nigeria Police for arresting attackers of Condluence Radio journalist in Kogi
A non-governmental organisation, Initiative for Grassroot Development Advancement in Nigeria, (INGRA) on Tuesday commended the Nigeria Police for swift arrest of attackers of Kogi based Confluence Radio journalist.
In a statement which was signed by its Executive Director, Hamza Aliyu and obtained by CAPITAL POST, said two of the criminals have been arrested, stressing that the arrest would demonstrate that the attack was carried out by criminal elements trying to give government of the day a bad name.
The statement said: “Sequel to the dastardly attack on the Investigative Journalist/News Editor of Confluence TV/Grace FM, we had called the Nigerian Police and The Kogi State Government to immediately Investigate and arrest the perpetrators of the act.
“Reports from the Nigerian Police Force Kogi State Command has shown that 2 persons have been arrested as a result of their investigation and are awaiting prosecution.
“We want to commend the Nigerian Police Force for their quick arrest of the culprits as this would serve as a deterrent to other miscreants.
“We also wish to commend the Kogi State Government for providing the support in terms of logistics for the investigation.
“Our Journalists are critical part of our democracy and must be protected at all cost.
“The Alhaji Yahaya Bello Government must continue on this positive path and continue to garner the confidence of the people.
“Citizens must also not be afraid to call out their government where they fail to act or act too slowly. But they must also be courageous to commend them when they act within the duties and well.”
