JUSUN: NBA in solidarity set to join protest on Monday in Minna

The Minna and Suleja, Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), have thrown their weight behind the Judiciary staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), and Paliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), in solidarity with their ongoing demands for their financial autonomy.

The National leadership of the NBA has directed all branches across the country to join the JUSUN and PASAN to support the two unions in their respective states to press home their demand for the financial autonomy as enshrined in section 121 (3), of the 1999 constitution as amended.

In compliance with the directive, the two branches of the NBA in Minna and Suleja conveyed an emergency meeting with the JUSUN and PASAN at the Conference hall of the Niger State judicial service Commission (NJSC), with a view to supporting their demand for the financial autonomy.

Speaking with Journalists shortly after the meeting, the chairman Suleja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Barrister Clement Okhaigbe explained that as a result of the directive received from the National leadership of the NBA, the two branches of the association will join the both union in solidarity with their demands.

He said the two branches of the NBA in Minna and Suleja will on Monday, next week take to the streets of Minna in solidarity with the course of the two unions.

He noted that NBA as a critical stakeholder in the administration of justice, will come out in their large numbers to throw their weight behind the Judiciary staff Union and the Paliamentary Staff Association in their demands for the financial autonomy.

He stated that the two Bars in Minna and Suleja branches have already taken it upon themselves to take to the streets in peaceful protest to the goverment house and present their letter of protest to the governor.

Earlier, the chairman, NBA Minna branch, Barrister Mohammed Abubakar El-surur, stated that the National Secretariat of the association has directed all its members across the country to join forces with the two unions in ensuring that the executive comply with their demands as pronounced by a Federal High court in Abuja.

“And in compliance with the nationwide directive of our National President, we are going to embark on peaceful protest to thr goverment house on Monday, and forward our letter of protest to the governor in his office.

“That is our own position. If by Monday, the strike was not suspended, or called off, we shall take to the street in peaceful protest to goverment house”, he said.
