Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state on Tuesday described 1.8 million population allocated to the State in the past census conducted by National Population Commission as a joke.

“When you look at Karu Local Government Area alone, the population there is more than the number proclaimed by NPC in 2006, the figure was an injustice to the State.

Governor Sule expressed his dissatisfaction with the figure allocated to the State at Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 in collaboration with National Primary Healthcare Development Agency at town hall meeting on COVID-19 vaccination in Nigeria’s North Central zone which held in Lafia.

“And indeed this population could be positive at the end because it helps in development of our State and it also helps in the use of little structures we have in the area.

“In fact recently, at the NEC meeting when the INEC Chairman came in to present delineation of additional pulling units, he made an example with Nasarawa State where is one pulling units you have over 10,000 voters that’s why if they says population of the state is 1.8, I considered it as a joke.

Governor Sule thanked tje Secretary to the Government of Federation, Barrister Boss Mustapha for all the support especially from the office of ecological funds.

“This informed our decision to close our border because of our concern and proximity to FCT and other neighboring states.
