‘Overlook my comment on Al-Qaeda, Taliban as I know better now’, Pantami pleads with Nigerians
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami whose hardline comment that tended to support terrorism has pleaded with Nigerians to overook his past, saying that he knows better now than the time he made those comments.
The Minister has been under serious media searchlight in past days for his inciteful comments in the past.
The controversy of his past comments was triggered by being listed among the United States terror watchlist which he quickly rebutted and promised to sue the media house that publicized the news.
But over the weekend past audio tapes and audio files of Pantami’s teachings about 15 years ago where he sympathized with international terror groups such as Al Qaeda and the Taliban were reloaded.
During the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration,
Pantami had condemned Nigerian Army’s killing of the deadly sect and called them ‘Muslim brothers’ that shouldn’t be slaughtered like pigs.
It has been made public, another controversial incident of the persecution of some targeted Christian students at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University many years ago.
Pantami while speaking during his daily Ramadan lecture at Annor mosque in Abuja on Saturday, said he now knows better about some of the comments he made in the past.
He said some of the comments he made many years ago that are generating controversies now were based on his understanding of religious issues at the time, and he has changed several positions and stances taken in the past based on new evidences and maturity.
