Breaking: Nigerians to enjoy 2-months free electricity – Reps

Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on Saturday revealed that a bill for two months free electricity for Nigerians would be considered.


He said the bill if passed into law will cushion the hardships Nigerians are going through as a result of stay at home order as a way of steming the tide of coronavirus disease.


He added that the proposed bill will help in boosting the economy through the informal sector as the country prepares for the aftermath of the coronavirus.

The bill which is second in less than a month, will be considered immediately the House reconvenes from its ongoing break, declared due to the pandemic. 

He further said, that the leadership of the National Assembly has extended the resumption date, initially slated for April 7, by one week in compliance with government’s 2-week stay-at-home policy. 

Gbajabiamila spoke at the National Assembly on Saturday during a meeting between the National Assembly leadership and the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmad, the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Ben Akabueze, among others.

If the bill scale through and is implemented, it will be the first in history in Nigeria.
