Tension as Airforce fighter jet battling Boko Haram goes missing in operation
There is apprehension within the security circles over a Nigerian Airforce fighter jet which reportedly went missing battling Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State on Wednesday.
The said jet neither returned to base nor could be seen anywhere, a situation that suggests it might have been captured by the Boko Haram fighters.
Director of Nigeria Airforce Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet confirmed the development in a press release.
He said the whereabouts of the fighter jet was unknown at the press time but ruled out any crashes involving the airplane.
“A NAF Alpha-Jet has lost contact with radar in Borno State, while on interdiction mission in support of ground troops.
“Details of the whereabouts of the aircraft or likely cause of contact loss are still sketchy but will be relayed to the general public as soon as they become clear. Meanwhile, search and rescue efforts are ongoing”, he added.
