Buhari can rule from London, Garba Shehu explains why President didn’t handover to Osinbajo
The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba explained that it wasn’t necessary for his principal to handover to the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for being away for two weeks on medical check up.
Garba Shehu’s reaction followed public demands that Buhari should have handed over to Osinbajo before leaving for London on medical checkup.
The Media aide said, Buhari is internet savy, hence, he could contact whom ever he wants from London.
According to him, Buhari wasn’t incapacitated as he merely went to London for his routine medical checkup, adding that he has been doing that before he became President.
“Its just normal routine medical check-up from the President own personal Doctors in the UK, as this has been done even before he became the president and also during his tenure.”
The President left for London on Tuesday amidst criticism by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, saying that Nigeria’s health system has collapsed under Buhari.
Before he left, Shehu said , he held a meeting with the Service Chiefs and made his stand known on insecurity.
The President is expected to be back in the country in the second week of April
On the position of law, Garba Shehu said, “the constituition allows the handing over of power if the President will be out of the country for twenty one days.
“And if he’s in anyway incapacitated to rule, but what we have now is not the situation, so the president can communicate with the Vice President, Secretary to the Federal Government through internet connection and he will be rulling from London.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party National Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan expressed disgust that Mr. President’s routine medical checks was taking a toll on tax payers money.
The party alledged that Nigeria’s health system has been bastardised to an extent that the State House Clinic cannot perform mere medical checkups.
