Senate Minority leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe on Thursday reacted to Orji Uzor Kalu’s statement that he was picked from the gutters.

He said, he has since left the gutters, but expressed shock that the Senate Chief Whip and former governor of Abia State was still in the gutter.

Change of Name

Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial district in the National Assembly, further maintained that it was up to his constituents to raise concern of his under performance, if Kalu’s complaint was anything to go by.

“If Kalu said he picked me from the gutters, why is he still in the gutter? That is the question and I think the matter should end there,” he said.

“Kalu said, for 16 years, I was not doing anything, what has that got to do with him? It is my constituents that should be bothered about my representation, not him”.

“If I am doing nothing at the Senate, my people should worry, not him. There is no need going into all that with him. I cannot come down to his level and respond to him, it is like bringing myself to his level.”

CAPITAL POST has quoted Kalu at a campaign outing to have said: “He picked Abaribe from the gutters and made him deputy governor.”

He had also said that Abaribe was so shameless, that he had nothing to show for the 16 years he had represented Abia South at the National Assembly.

“He is busy speaking English as if English Language is what we need.

“We need infrastructure, good roads, schools and hospitals.

“In Abia North, I have given them 19 roads, renovated schools, built hospitals with a lot of empowerment in just a year at the Senate.

“Abaribe is so shameless that he doesn’t even have a road leading to his village in Umuekwensu. It is a big shame,” he said.

By-election for Aba South/North Federal Constituency slated for Saturday, 28th March, 2021, which Hon. Mascot Kalu, a younger brother to Orji Uzor Kalu is contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reopened fresh political altercation between the two politicians from Abia State.
